Farewell party

Every departure to a more than 3 weeks stay abroad requires a proper farewell. For me, that means having a party with my beloved family and friends.  This is why I invited them to my parents’ backyard for a summer party last Saturday. Besides very tasty drinks and food (than you for that, Mama) we also had a great time hanging out talking until 4 in the morning.

A huge thanks to everyone who came to say goodbye. I really appreciate your support and your good wishes. I don’t think I would dare to do all the stuff I do without knowing I have someone backing me.

I love you tons and miss you already. … although I obviously know that I will have a super exiting time in India and make incredible experiences and I cannot wait for my adventure to start tomorrow.

Abschiedsparty

Jeder Abschied für mehr als drei Wochen im Ausland braucht eine vernünftige Verabschiedung. Für mich bedeutet das meist, eine Party mit meinen Liebsten, also meiner Familie und meinen Freunden zu feiern. Genau deshalb habe ich sie am Samstag alle zu einer Sommerparty in den Garten meiner Eltern eingeladen. Bei jeder Menge leckerem Essen und Getränken (tausend Dank fürs Kochen, liebe Mama) haben wir bis vier Uhr in der Früh draußen gesessen und gequatscht.

Vielen Dank an alle, die gekommen sind, um sich von mir zu verabschieden. Ich weiß eure Unterstützung und eure guten Wünsche sehr zu schätzen. Ich glaube, ohne das Wissen, dass ihr alle hinter mir steht, würde ich mich den ganzen Kram, den ich so mache, nicht trauen.

Ich habe euch alle unsagbar lieb und vermisse euch schon jetzt. … obwohl ich natürlich weiß, dass ich in Indien unglaublich viel erleben werde und ich mich darauf schon irre freue.

explore the explosion

My fellow students Jessica, Caecilia and I just started to work on our “practical project” for next semester. We are going to organize a cultural event all by ourselves. The “evening of local heroes” on November 8th will be part of a literary festival that takes place in our university town Dortmund each year and is traditionally planned by students of our subject. We decided to theme the event “explore the explosion” and take our guests on an expedition trough the world of culture(s).

At the moment, we are searching for local artists of any kind to be part of the event.
All those artistic, creative people living around Dortmund can apply to participate here.

Meine Kommilitoninnen Jessica, Caecilia und ich haben vor kurzem mit der Arbeit an unserem „Praxisprojekt” für das kommende Semester begonnen. Wir werden ganz allein ein Kulturevent organisieren. Der “Abend der Helden von Hier” am 8. November ist Teil des LesArt. Literaturfestivals Dortmund. Er wird traditionell von Studierenden unseren Studienfachs organisiert.

Wir haben beschlossen, den Abend unter das Motto „explore the explosion“ zu stellen und unsere Besucher mit auf eine Expedition durch die Welt der Kultur(en) zu nehmen.

 Im Moment sind wir auf der Suche nach Künstlerinnen und Künstlern aus Dortmund und der Umgebung, um Teil des Events zu sein.

Skating into the sun set is even greater. // Dem Sonnenuntergang entgegen zu fahren macht gleich noch mehr Spaß.

After living in Dortmund for 5 months I eventually found the perfect route to skate. // Nach 5 Monaten in Dortmund habe ich endlich die perfekte Inliner-Route gefunden.

There were a ton of baby bunnies in the park – SO cute. // Im Park sind ganz viele Babyhasen rumgehoppelt – super süß.

This is what a mini vacation in my parent’s backyard looks like. // So sieht ein Miniurlaub im Garten meiner Eltern aus.

Since there are great things to do throughout all seasons, I do not have a favorite one. However, I would like to share with you what I love about the summer. It came to my mind when I did some inline skating last week and enjoyed my mini vacation in my parent’s backyard yesterday.

• Ice cream and fresh fruits
• Light clothes, dresses and skirts
• The sun
• Outings on my inline skates or bike
• Coming home from a party at sunrise and not needing a jacket
• Barbecues
• Playing pool games with my baby cousin (2)
• Hanging out at the park
• Having the best motivation to get my university stuff done: do something fun outside as soon as the work is finished
• It’s vacation season
• The flowers in my grandparents’ backyard
• …

Ich habe keine Lieblingsjahreszeit, weil es während jeder einzelnen  wundervolle Dinge zu tun gibt. Trotzdem möchte ich mit euch teilen, was ich am Sommer besonders mag. Es kam mir in den Sinn, als ich vergangene Woche auf Inlinern dem Sonnenuntergang entgegen fuhr und ich gestern einen Miniurlaub im Garten meiner Eltern verbrachte.

• Eis und frisches Obst
• Luftige Kleidung, Kleider und Röcke
• Die Sonne
• Ausflüge auf Inlinern oder dem Rad
• Von einer Party nach Hause kommen, wenn die Sonne bereits wieder aufgeht, und keine Jacke brauchen
• Grillpartys
• Planschbecken-Spiele mit meiner Cousine (2)
• Nachmittage und Abende im Park
• Die beste Motivation mit dem Unikram fertig zu werden: die Aussicht auf Sonne, sobald alles geschafft ist
• Es ist Urlaubszeit
• Die Blumen im Garten meiner Großeltern
• …

Was mögt ihr am Sommer am liebsten?

Anticipation

India is an ambivalent country. There probably will be a great difference in some aspects between what I read my travel guide and between reality.
To be honest I have to admit that it has never been so hard for me to imagine what anything is going to be like than now. I guess I will just let everything happen 🙂
However, here is a video about Vadodara, the town I will live and work in for the next few weeks. As my preparations continue, I am getting more and more excited each day. 9 days to go!

Vorfreude
Indien ist ein sehr vielseitiges Land. Wahrscheinlich wird sich mir ein großer Unterschied zwischen dem, was in meinem Reiseführer steht, und der Realität offenbaren.
Um ehrlich zu sein ist es mir noch nie zuvor so schwer gefallen, mir das, was da bald auf mich zukommt, auszumalen. Deshalb werde ich einfach alles auf mich zukommen lassen 🙂
Dies ist ein Video über Vadodara (Baroda), die Stadt, in der ich während der nächsten Wochen leben und arbeiten werde. Je weiter meine Vorbereitungen für die Reise voranschreiten, desto aufgeregter werde ich. Noch 9 Tage!

The strangest feeling…

I just said goodbye to the first of my best friends. Janina will be leaving town for a vacation tomorrow and therefore not be here for my departure in 11 days.
It was so surreal! I haven’t even started packing and already had to say goodbye. It seemed like we’ll meet each other again in a day or to, but we won – not until October 1st which is 72 days from now.
However, thank you for supporting me. I love you! ♥

Ein seltsames Gefühl…

Ich habe mich eben von der ersten meiner besten Freundinnen verabschiedet. Janina fährt morgen in den Urlaub und wird deshalb nicht da sein, wenn ich in 11 Tagen abreise.
Es war total unwirklich! Ich habe noch nicht einmal angefangen zu packen und musste mich trotzdem schon verabschieden. Es fühlte sich an, als würden wir uns schon morgen wieder sehen. Tatsächlich wird das aber bis zum 1. Oktober, in 72 Tagen, der Fall sein.
Wie dem auch sei, danke, dass du für mich da bist! Ich hab dich lieb! ♥

Summer dreaming

When asked about my favorite season I always answer I had none because I loved all of them.
However, I have to admit: I love the summer right now. Isn’t it just great to wake up early without being tired because the sunbeams cross your face through the half-opened window? To get up, jump in the shower and only need to throw on a light dress? I even feel like studying for my exams is much more fun when the sun shines at me. Saying that… let’s go on with it – some more presentations and exams to go until I am free for the summer.
In exactly 3 more weeks from now I’ll almost sit in the plane to India!

Holi Festival of Colors

I did some preparation for my trip to India today. Well, kinda…
The holi festival is one of the most colorful festivals in the world. It is traditionally celebrated to welcome the spring in Northern India.

It somehow spilled over to Germany and is now commercially celebrated in cities all over the country. Today, it was celebrated in my hometown Dortmund. My friends and I had a blast while listening to great music, enjoying the sun, dancing and throwing colors at each other.

There was a countdown to throw the colours each full hours. Looks stunning, doesn’t it?

Bombay Boogie Soundsystem, Moguai and other DJs played great music.

It’s always good to have tall friends to lift you in front of the stage.

This lady married today and afterwards went to the festival with her husband – would you do it?

Ich habe mit den Vorbereitungen für meine Reise nach Indien begonnen. Im weitesten Sinne….
Das Holi Festival ist eines der farbenfrohsten Feste der Welt. Im Norden Indiens wird es traditionell begangen, um den Frühling willkommen zu heißen.

Irgendwie ist das Fest auch nach Deutschland rübergeschwappt und wird nun kommerziell in vielen Städten im ganzen Land gefeiert. Heute stieg die Party in meiner Heimatstadt Dortmund. Meine Freunde und ich hatten jede Menge Spaß dabei, die Sonne zu genießen, zu tanzen und uns mit buntem Farbpulver zu bewerfen.
